| The idea for a Firefighters Muster and Challenge began as a conversation between two members of the West Goshen Lions Club while they were working on another Lions Club fund raiser - a White Cane Day.
The topic turned to the need for a new fund raising idea; something that was exciting and that could grow to become a familiar fixture in the community.
After going through a list of dozens of fund raising ideas that had been tried elsewhere, the Lions came upon the idea of a firefighters muster. Shortly after the original conversation, the idea was taken to the Fund Raising Committee for evaluation. Interestingly, the Chairman of that committee had been a volunteer member of a local fire company and he was interested in the idea.
In the Autumn of 2005, the plan for the First Annual Chester County Firefighters Muster and Challenge was presented to the Board of Directors of the West Goshen Lions Club for approval. The project was quickly given the "green light" and planning began for the first event to be held in June 2006.
Now in it's third year, the Muster has grown into one of the Lions Club's most successful annual events. In 2007, over $4,000 was distributed to local fire companies as a result of the Muster.
The Chester County Firefighters Muster and Challenge, in addition to being a fund raising event for the Lions Club, is an opportunity for the community to recognize the outstanding work done by the local volunteer emergency service workers.
